এটি দ্বারা স্প্রে করা পাতা, ডগা ইত্যাদি থেকে রস খাবার সাথে সাথেই পোকামাকড় মারা যায়। ইহা ট্রান্সলেমিনার গুনসম্পন্ন (পাতার টিস্যুতে প্রবেশ করে পাতার এক পার্শ্ব থেকে অন্য পার্শ্ব যেতে পারে এমন ) কীটনাশক তাই পাতার উপরে পড়লে তা ভেদ করে পাতার নীচের অংশে পৌঁছাতে সক্ষম যার ফলশ্রুতিতে পাতার উল্টো পার্শ্বে অবস্থানরত পোকামাকড় সহজেই মারা যায়।স্প্রে করার কয়েক ঘণ্টার মধ্যে পোকামাকড় তার খাদ্য গ্রহণ ক্ষমতা হারিয়ে ফেলে। এর পর ২-৪ দিনের মধ্যে লার্ভা ও পোকা মারা যায় ।ইমাটিন ৫ এসজি স্প্রে তে পোকামাকড়ের ডিম ও ধ্বংস হয়ে যায়।
